This sweet pot, with hinged lid, gilt interior, spun body, and engine turning celebrates the introduction of machinery into this traditional craft. Engine turning is a fine geometric pattern applied to the surface of a metal by a machine. It is also called jeweling. This is frequently used in watches of the same period.
The use of mustard as a condiment in England may be traced back to King Richard II's chefs in 1390. Historians credit the R. T. French Company with popularizing mustard as a condiment for hot dogs at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.
4 5/8” height, 2 1/2” top diameter, 3 1/2” width. 3.8 troy ounces.
