Georg Jensen opened his first shop in Copenhagen in 1904. Through determination and important collaborations, his successful business grew employ 250 craftsmen in twenty-five years. One such collaboration was with acclaimed painter, Johan Rohde (1856-1935). Rohde approached Jensen early in the silversmith's career with designs for personal commissions. The finished products were so successful that the two continued to work together. Rohde's designs inspired Jensen and Jensen's skills greatly impressed Rohde. One of their most enduring successes is the pattern "Acorn", designed in 1915.
Eleven years after the presentation of this chocolate pot, Rohde received the Thorvaldsen Medal. The partnership of Rohde and Jensen shaped the development of Danish craftsmanship that is still celebrated a century later.
