English Sterling Silver Tea Caddy Scoop, J. Gloster Limited, Birmingham, 1914-1915
Caddy spoons became popular in the eighteenth century following the rise in imported tea from Malaya and Java. Used for measuring loose tea leaves, caddy spoons became a popular and profitable line of smallwares in Birmingham's bustling silver manufacturing industry. This piece features an elliptical bowl atop a brightcut-engraved handle with shield reserve. It is in exceptional condition, having never been engraved.
