Edwardian Platinum and Old European Cut Diamond Ring

SOLD

Old European Cut diamonds are the ancestors to the modern brilliant cut diamonds, dating between circa 1890 and the mid 1930s, when all diamonds were measured and cut entirely by hand. While they share the same number of facets as the modern brilliant cuts, 58, Old European Cuts are identifiable by their small table (facet at the top of the diamond) and their large culet (facet at the bottom of the diamond).

Differing proportions of Old European Cut to modern brilliant diamonds result in a different path light takes when entering the stone. The path determines the “fire” of a stone. This beautiful example illustrates an inner fire, a trait of better cut Old European diamonds.

This elegant Edwardian piece features a 1.35 Old European Cut center stone, VS1 in clarity and J in color with 34 single cut diamonds of .80 total carat weight. Current size 4 1/2.
