Gold Filled Locket with Seed Pearls and Possibly Emerald, Circa 1890
This seemingly simple two-picture locket is riddled with symbolism from the Victorian era. As the accessory of Apollo, the Greek god of music and prophecy, lyres symbolize wisdom and moderation. Seed pearls represent purity, chastity and delicacy. The green stone, possibly an emerald, donates growth, peace, healing and fertility.
Holds two oval pictures. One of the original glasses is missing; both frame bezels have mylar.
1" length excluding bale, 7/8" width.
